Paper Cut Manual

1. Training
Students must have had training with Naoko to create a Paper Cut account. The way to check this is by looking at the “Paper Cut Students List” in your Google Drive.

If a student needs training, there is a sign up sheet in the locker.

If they have had training but it is blank under the “activation” column in the Google Doc, their password must be changed by a GTA.  However, if they have had training and it also says “yes” under activation, it means they’ve already changed their password this semester and forgot it.  The only way to retrieve their new password is through department technician, so they will have to email her directly.  GTA’s have no access to their password once they have activated it in the system.


2.  Trouble Shooting
Any time a student needs to be refunded money from Paper Cut, report it in the “Troubleshooting” Google Doc.  Also send an email to Naoko with the link to the Google Doc under the subject heading “troubleshoot”.

The students won’t receive a refund if the print didn’t come out as they’d like it or if they set the printer settings incorrectly.  If it was Paper Cut’s problem or the printer’s problem, they are entitled to a refund.  For example, if the computer/printer has to be restarted or black lines appear on at the top of their print, this is acceptable for a refund.

The most basic troubleshooting solution when the printer is having a communication error is to restart the printer, unplug its USB from the computer, restart the computer, and then plug it back in.

If students are having problems with paper loading, make sure everything is set and ready to go before they send the print job through Paper Cut.

TROUBLESHOOTING TIPS

-       If Epson says “Communication Error”:

o    Turn off computer AND printer, unplug printer’s USB from back of monitor, plug it back in, and restart the computer and printer.

-       Low Ink:

o   When the light is flashing on the printer, this is just a warning that the ink is low.

o   The ink is replaced ONLY when the light stays lit up.

     -     Paper Settings:

     o    Confirm the printer is set to either Sheet or Roll BEFORE sending the job     through Paper Cut.

-    Refunds:

o   If you require a refund, you need confirmation from a GTA or instructor. Ask for a refund through Naoko and CC the GTA/instructor.

o   We don’t refund if your settings were wrong; it has to be a problem with the printer or Paper Cut.

Room 209 Audio/Video Cabinet Instructions

Blu-ray & DVD Player

A.  Blu-ray/DVD Player

1.    Using the supplied remote control: Turn on Blu-ray player.

2.    Turn on Sony Receiver.

3.    On the receiver, turn Input Selector dial to Video 2.

4.    On the receiver, turn down the volume knob to 30.  (This prevents you from blowing the speakers upon start up).

5.    Turn on the Panasonic High Definition Projector by aiming the remote towards the front of the projector.

6.    If you do not see the blu-ray screen saver, then press the input select button located on the bottom of the remote.  Press the input select button until you arrive at HDMI.

7.    You should see a picture of the blu-ray screensaver.  Make sure the main lights are off so that you can see it clearly.

8.    Insert your Blu-ray or DVD.

-        No other adjustments are necessary.  The blu-ray player will scale the image in the correct aspect ratio.

-        If there is no audio, check and make sure you see the letter “A” on the receiver display.

-        Do not adjust projector keystone or lens shift.  The projector is set to view blu-ray with in the white wall screen.

-        Do not adjust color setting as the projector has been calibrated for cinema viewing.  It is set to Cinema 1 in order to maximize the wide dynamic range and latitude that motion picture film source material provides.

-        For best viewing, allow projector to warm up and for your eyes to adjust to the projection 2-5 minutes before viewing presentation.

-        Full quality is 1920 x 1080 progressive 10 bit frames.  You will receive optimum results when viewing well photographed imagery that has either been scanned in from film sources or was shot in this resolution.

B.   Desktop

1.    Turn on the Apple Desktop Computer.

2.    Turn on the Sony Receiver.

3.    On the receiver, set Input Selector dial to MD/TAPE.

4.    On the receiver, turn down the volume knob to 30.

5.    Turn on the Panasonic High Definition Projector by aiming the remote towards the front of the projector.

6.    If you do not see a desktop image, then press the input select button until you arrive at Computer In.

7.    You should see the desktop image.

8.    The projector display should be set at (CinemaHD: 1024 x 768).  Please do not adjust this in the desktop.  **The desktop’s setting should be set at VGA: 800 x 600 with mirroring display**

9.    Audio jack should plug into front Audio plug of the computer.

-        If there is no audio, check and make sure you see the letter “A” on the receiver display.

-        Do not adjust projector keystone or lens shift. The projector is set to view Blu-ray with in the white wall screen.

-        This desktop is connected through DVI and will render a better picture over the laptop VGA connection provided.  You will have a larger chrominance and luminance space.

-        Do not adjust color setting.  It is set to Cinema 1 in order to maximize the wide dynamic range and latitude that motion picture film/large format photograph source material provides

C.  VHS Player

1.    Turn on VHS

2.    Press the gray top selector button appropriate to your player. They are labeled on the wood above each button.

3.    Turn on Sony Receiver.

4.    On the receiver, turn Input Selector dial to Video 1.

5.    On the receiver, turn down the volume knob to 30.

6.    Turn on the Panasonic High Definition Projector by aiming the remote towards the front of the projector.

7.    Press the input select button located on the bottom of the remote.  Press the input select button until you arrive at Video.

8.    Make sure the main lights are off so that you can see an image clearly.

9.    Insert your tape or disc.

-        No other adjustment are necessary.  The projector will scale the image in the correct aspect ratio.

-        If there is no audio, check and make sure you see the letter “A” on the receiver display.

-        Do not adjust projector keystone or lens shift.  The projector is set to view blu-ray with in the white wall screen.

-        Do not adjust color setting as the projector has been calibrated for cinema viewing.  It is set to Cinema 1 in order to maximize the wide dynamic range and latitude that motion picture film source material provides.

Room 211 Audio Cabinet

1.    If using a laptop, disconnect the VGA cable provided from the desktop system and connect to your laptop.

a.    Use your own appropriate MAC adapter (________ to VGA) if needed.  Please plan ahead.  It is impossible for the department to keep up with everyone’s custom system.

b.    Plug in the computer audio cable into the desktop headphone jack or laptop headphone jack.  The cord should be found connected to the black cabinet.

2.    Turn on the desktop computer or your laptop.

3.    Press the RED MAIN POWER switch on the black cabinet.  (It should light red).  Wait 1-2 minutes for cabinet to boot up.

4.    Press the Screen Down Button to lower the screen.

5.    Press the VP On button to turn on the Video Projector. A red light should show up on the button.  Wait 1-2 minutes to see an image.

6.    On the black cabinet, press the laptop button to activate computer usage.

a.    DVD-DVD (make sure “Progressive” NOT LIT!

b.    VCR-VCR

c.     RCA-AUX (external video device plugged into yellow, red, white socket)

7.    You should see an image on the projector.

8.    Double-check your computer resolution settings for desired image.

9.    When finished, turn off the projector by pressing VP Off and switch off the main power.

·      Do not adjust color setting as the projector has been calibrated for cinema viewing.

·      Always wait 1-2 minutes for black cabinet to boot up and for projector to display.  If you do not do this, you will have to reboot the system.

A.   Blu-ray/DVD Player (Plays both Blu-ray HD and SD DVDs)

6.    If you do not see the blu-ray screen saver, then press the input select button located on the bottom of the remote.  Press the input select button until you arrive at HDMI 2.

7.    You should see a picture of the blu-ray screensaver.  Make sure the main lights are off so that you can see it clearly.

8.    Insert your Blu-ray or DVD.

9.    Adjust your volume- a volume of 55 to 65 should work well.

·      No other adjustments are necessary.  The blu-ray player will scale the image in the correct aspect ratio.

·      If there is no audio, check and make sure you see the letter “A” on the receiver display.

9.    Adjust your volume—a volume of 55 to 65 should work well.

·      If there is no audio, check and make sure you see the letter “A” on the receiver display.

·      Do not adjust projector keystone or lens shift.  The projector is set to view Blu-ray with in the white wall screen.

·      This desktop is connected through DVI and will render a better picture over the laptop VGA connection provided.  You will have a larger chrominance and luminance space.

2.    Press the gray top selector button appropriate to your player.  They are labeled on the wood above each button.

3.    Turn on Sony Receiver.
